  • My issues with feminisim

I consider myself to be a feminist. Equal work for equal pay? I'm there. Equal rights for women to do the same as men? Count me in. Abortion rights? I'm a supporter. But I have a few serious issues with some of the things many feminists believe. They say that they want women to be able to do the same as men, and live life as they see fit. I agree. What I don't like, though, is how the same people who say that every female has the right to live how she wants, yet they look down on those who choose to be housewives, those who choose to have an unplanned baby rather than aborting, and those who choose to wear only skirts & dresses or head coverings. As long as the woman isn't forced into any of these things, I think it's beautiful. How can you say you support a woman's right to choose how to live, but say that those who have choices different from their own are wrong? Someone explain this to me, because I just don't get it.

It's an issue of conformity, in my opinion. Feminists can be sort of like nazis, eh? "THIS IS THE WAY YOU SHOULD ACT, OR ELSE YOU'RE LETTING PENISES RUN YOUR LIFE!"

    ...

    Makes no sense to me.

It's exactly like how some kids make their little group because they're all "different" and they "don't follow the mainstream", but then when one of them acts different from the others, they shun that one.

    People are weird, yo.

But I totally get your drift.

@psycho_ash - Yup, sounds about right. A lot of them really do contradict themselves. I went to a multi-cultural thing at my school where all the clubs & such were set up, and one booth was handing out little "This is what a feminist looks like" stickers. I got one, and not ten minutes later some bitch told me I couldn't be a feminist because I dressed too "preppy" Seriously now. Wtf? I don't usually consider myself preppy, but I could see where she was coming from, but still. Preppy girls can't be feminists? Yeah, okay...
